Susan moved to Yorkshire from London with her architect husband in 1995. This move North brought her back to her roots, to the unique and beautiful landscape that she loves. Susan paints with emotion to express the varied moods of the wonderful Yorkshire landscape capturing moments in light and colour. To achieve this she uses mixed media, oils and collage and is continually experimenting with different techniques. Her work explores ideas about the environment, farming, wildlife, woodlands and countryside issues to create a visual dialogue about our landscape. The mixed media aspect of the works allows a variety of textures and effects which emphasise the subject of each painting. Inspired by artists from Turner, Chagall and Constable to Peter Doig, Shiela Fell, Maggie Hambling (amongst many others) Susan paints out in the landscape and develops her paintings in her garden studio. Susan is now retired from her profession as an architect which allows her more time to concentrate on her career as a landscape painter. She continues to work as a freelance illustrator, and is a volunteer at Abbot Hall in Kendal. |
